Welcome From St. Francis Local 1977

Recent Letter from the President of EdMn-1977 James Hennesy

Good morning and a special welcome to all our new employees.

Couple of quick announcements.
• Negotiations are behind due to the State shut down and the late hiring of Mr. Lindberg our new Human Relations Director{welcome} who needed some time to look over all the contracts .
• As negotiations develop, you can go to our web site or on line at Education Minnesota St. Francis Local 1977 and click on Negotiations. Your negotiator should have updates when possible.
• If you did not stop by the union table please do so when you leave today.
• A short CELC informational meeting will be held here after our meeting this morning.
I would like to share 3 definitions with you.

Def. 1 Labor:
• Physical or mental exertion, especially when difficult or exhausting.
• To work
• To deal with in exhaustive or excessive detail.

Def. 2 Management:
• The act, or practice of managing; handling, supervision, or control.
• The person or persons who control or direct a business or other enterprise.

Def. 3 Collaboration
• The Act of working together; united labor.

If you combine Labor, Management and Collaboration, what do you have? ISD 15.
Because of our Labor/Management Collaboration, we have been recognized both nationally and within the state of Minnesota as an innovative leader in this area.
• Representatives from the union and management were invited to speak at a Labor/Management conference in Washington D.C. sponsored by the American Federation of Teachers and at the National Labor/Management Conference, sponsored by the U S Department of Education, in Denver Colo. And again in L.A California.

• At the Education Minnesota Summer Institute at St. Benedicts EDMN President Tom Dooher praised St. Francis for” being ahead of the curve in developing a collaborative evaluation process for district employees”.
We must be doing something right? No, we are doing many things right.
We need to continue moving forward with our collaborative communication skills and the culture we have created of working together for the common good of our Students, the good of the Community and the good of the employees of ISD 15.

Have a great year, and keep up the excellent work.

James Hennesy
Local 1977 President
